Network improvements ¶
This week we got two important improvements:
- Old geo-multiplier was re-instantiated, reversing outcome of the idiotic referendum pushed by one community member (see old discussions in #democracy channel in XX Discord)
- Team Multiplier has finally been fixed to take reward for its share, thereby making competition between team-backed and other validators fair
You can see in older posts on this blog, I’ve been arguing for this for half a year. Finally, it’s been done.
The amount of hypocrisy and nonchalance team-backed validators exhibited in these discussions was shocking.
Thoughts on validation and validators ¶
I’ve been successful in adding additional validator nodes, and as you can see (at least right now, I don’t know about the future), now I have three nodes:
- PRIDE
- ENVY
- SLOTH
Now that Team Multiplier has been fixed, I regret that I’ve spent so much time standing up an extra node, then found myself in a situation where I had to argue with many idiot-validators, give up validating on the new node because Team Multiplier wasn’t working properly (I was making less validating than nominating)… Eventually I stood up two new nodes and persisted until Team Multiplier was finally fixed this week.
Personally I get a lot of satisfaction from this victory, both in terms of successfully influencing the team to improve Team Multiplier, and standing up and operating multiple nodes in difficult circumstances. And I find it encouraging - all XX coin holders should - that the team made the changes I rooted for, and made the network better and healthier.
One thing that I changed my mind on recent is the wish to stand up even more validator nodes.
When I was really frustrated by the stupidity of (some) fellow validators I thought about adding even more nodes, but then I got busy moving the two nodes to Germany (and then back), until finally this week it dawned on me that there’s nothing to prove by adding more nodes and in fact it’s a very bad idea - cMix has five nodes per round, so having one validator control five (or more) nodes would be bad.
Now you know why the nodes are named after sins: there was supposed to be more than just three, but less than 10. And because I realized many in the community are in fact scum, I changed node names to reflect their values.
UNITED-VALIDATORS in the name doesn’t mean there are multiple people running these nodes (it’s just me), but XX network validators and is in part motivated by that kumbaya validator UNITED EARTH.
That’s the story of the additional nodes and node names. In all likelihood there won’t be more than four.
